"My connection to coastal Karnataka is profound," reminisces Golden Star Ganesh about his journey in the Kannada film industry. "The director, producer, and music director of my debut film, 'Chellata,' all hailed from Mangaluru. Life has consistently brought me back to Karavali, and destiny played a role in my marriage to Shilpa, a native of the region. Over time, my affinity for Tulu culture and the land of Parashurama Srishti has only strengthened. Three years ago, during an event in Mangaluru, I expressed my aspiration to create a Tulu film someday. Now, that dream is materializing as Shilpa and I gear up to collaborate on our Tulu film," Ganesh discloses.
Reflecting on the cultural impact of his mother-in-law, Ganesh shares, "She often introduces me to Tulu plays, Yakshagana performances, and clips from Tulu films. I am truly impressed by the talent in the Tulu industry, particularly their exceptional comic timing. Working with outstanding actors like Aravind Bolar and Arjun Kapikad has been a privilege, witnessing their brilliance firsthand. I am excited about partnering with Sandeep Bedra as our director, Nityaprakash Bantwal as the lead actor, Mohan Bhatkal as the scriptwriter, and Santosh Rai Pathaje as the cinematographer - all of whom have already left their mark in cinema." Ganesh reveals that he will make a cameo appearance in the film, marking his debut in Tulu cinema. "I am fluent in Tulu and have a good understanding of the language, so expect me to deliver some dialogues," he chuckles.
"Our Tulu film will shine a light on Karavali, akin to how 'Mungaru Male' showcased Coorg," says Shilpa Ganesh. For her, the film is deeply personal and a tribute to her roots. "Growing up in Dubai, I would return home for holidays, and my aunts would take us to watch Tulu dramas at the Town Hall."In Mangaluru, there is immense cultural and artistic wealth waiting to be discovered. Through our film, we aim to showcase and promote Mangaluru like the successful impact Mungaru Male had on Coorg, highlighting its tourism, art, culture, and the linguistic excellence of Karavali," shared Shilpa.
